Temporary housing after a house fire
First weeks after a fire: habitability, ALE documentation, and housing options while remediation and rebuild proceed.
Immediate priorities
- Safety and a short-term place to sleep (hotel bridge is common).
- Claim opened; ask how Loss of Use / ALE is handled on your form.
- Board-up, contents, and personal documents. Photograph before disposal when safe.
Housing timeline
Fires often push past hotel comfort. Smoke, structural repairs, and permitting stretch months. Reassess at week two: furnished unit near schools, or RV on-lot if utilities and HOA allow.
